Kamal Hassan Ali of Sudan elected Arab League assistant secretary general



Khartoum (IINA) – The Council of the Foreign Ministers of the Arab League has unanimously approved the nomination of Dr. Kamal Hassan Ali of Sudan as the assistant secretary general of the Arab league, SUNA reported.
Sudan's Foreign Minister Prof. Ibrahim Ghandour said the election of Sudan for this post is a strong comeback for the Sudanese leadership in the region and the international organization and also reflects the distinguished role played by the country in its various affiliations.
Sudanese Ambassador to Egypt Abdul Mahmoud Abdul Halim pointed out that the election of Sudan to this post reflects the outstanding role played by Sudan's diplomacy and its ability to play a leading role in the various fora, particularly under the current environment of challenges facing the region.
He added that the Arab foreign ministers also approved a resolution supporting Sudan's peace and development efforts and at the same time rejecting the American unilateral sanctions imposed against Sudan.
Meanwhile, the foreign ministers commended the Sudanese national dialogue process and the initiative of President Omar al-Bashir for Arab Food Security.
The council approved convening of an Arab conference next year, to support Sudan's development efforts, and praised the country's efforts and role towards the establishment of peace and stability in Yemen.
It is to be noted that the 146th ordinary session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level kicked off its works in Cairo on Friday.
