Israel retracts car-ramming accusation against Palestinian killed by police

Jerusalem (IINA) – The Israeli police on Wednesday retracted an earlier version of a statement involving border guards opening fire and killing a Palestinian in Jerusalem, WAFA reported.
Police shot dead Mustafa Nimer in Shuafat refugee camp on Monday claiming he was in a car that sped towards them in an apparent attack. Another person in the car was arrested after being wounded in the incident.
On Monday, Israeli police suspected that the two men from Shuafat were planning to carry out a car-ramming attack, but a day later retracted their claim and said that they were looking into other leads. Police spokeswoman Luba Samri said in a statement that police has arrested the driver of the car and charged him of causing the death of Nimer, who was a passenger in the same car.
“The driver, a resident of Jerusalem from Shuafat refugee camp who is in his 20s, has been charged with causing the death of another person,” said Samri, adding that the driver, who was intoxicated, drove recklessly and was not in possession of a driving license, a matter that endangered the lives of people. She said the driver will appear in court for a remand hearing on Thursday.
Palestinians dismissed the Israeli attack story and accused the police of extrajudicial killing of Nimer and reckless shooting at the car.
