Riyadh (IINA) - The Ministry of Health (MoH) has drawn up a comprehensive program to educate Hajj pilgrims on health and more than 95,000 guests of Allah have benefited from it.
In addition to lectures at the Hajj Terminal and at the holy sites frequented by the pilgrims, the ministry is distributing brochures in 10 different languages. The objective of the program includes delivery of awareness messages related to healthy behavior and also to correct unhealthy behaviors that are noticed by the health awareness officials during pilgrims’ stay in Makkah. The health officials who work in the health education program were trained at the Dallah Academy of Volunteerism, which offers free courses in various fields of study.
There are 25 hospitals to serve the pilgrims in the holy sites — four in Arafat, four in Minah, seven in Madinah and King Abdullah Medical City. In addition to the hospitals, there are 43 primary health care centers in Makkah, 46 in Arafat, six in Muzdalifah, 26 in Mina, 18 in Madinah and 16 near the Jamaarat bridge. The hospitals at the holy sites have a bed capacity of 5,000 which include 500 intensive care units and 550 emergency beds.
This year, the ministry is focusing on the prevention of infectious diseases such as the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-coronavirus (MERS-CoV) and Zika virus. It will also be careful about detecting diseases such as spinal cerebral fever, meningitis , yellow fever and polio among the incoming pilgrims. The ministry is concentrating on educating the pilgrims on personal hygiene such as drinking of bottled water, washing their hands with soap especially after coughing or sneezing, using disposable shaving razors, abstaining from eating exposed foods and requesting them to keep away from the scorching sun at noon time to avoid sunstroke.
