Jeddah (IINA) – Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif is leaving for New York on Sunday as head of the Saudi delegation to the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Arab News daily newspaper reported.
The crown prince will address the UN General Assembly, which brings together some 135 heads of state and government in addition to dozens of ministers.
During the visit, which comes at the direction of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, the crown prince is expected to meet with US President Barack Obama to discuss bilateral relations and political issues in the region, including Yemen, Syria and counterterrorism efforts.
Before the world leaders begin their traditional speeches on Tuesday, the 193-member General Assembly will meet on Monday to adopt a political declaration on migrants and refugees.
Saudi Arabia is a founding member of the United Nations, as it signed its Charter on 26 June 1945, while its membership was endorsed on October 18 of the same year. The Kingdom also participated in San Francisco Conference which adopted the UN Charter, as late King Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud led the Saudi delegation, in his capacity as the minister of foreign affairs at the time.
