Morocco's trade deficit rising by 6.1%



RABAT (Ina) - said the Moroccan Foreign Exchange Office, on Monday (May 16, 2016), said that the trade deficit of the Kingdom rose to $ 5.5 billion, in the first four months of 2016, an increase of 6.1 percent compared with a year ago due to higher imports. 
Office data showed that imports of equipment increased by 15.6 percent, reaching $ 3.44 billion, as imports of wheat rose to $ 348 million due to lower domestic crop this year, which represents an increase of 10.6 percent compared with the level a year ago. The 
bureau added that the Kingdom 's imports bill of energy fell by 25.6 percent to $ 1.56 billion ,compared with the level in the previous year. 
He pointed out that total exports rose three percent year on year to 7.68 billion dollars ,supported by the rise in automobile 15 percent exports, while tourism receipts grew 6.2 percent . Also increased remittances 4.5 million Moroccans living abroad four percent to $ 1.94 billion. The foreign direct investment retreated by 9.6 percent to $ 1.02 billion.
