WASHINGTON (Ina) - The World Bank agreed to grant Morocco $ 200 million to help it cope with natural disasters.
The Bank, in a statement issued on Wednesday (April 20, 2016), that this grant will be directed to support the capabilities of Morocco in the field of planning and management of natural disasters, and the face the cost of potential damages.
The statement quoted the Director of operations of the World Bank for the Maghreb region, Marie Francoise Marie - Nelly, as saying that " the growing frequency and intensity of natural disasters is a real and at present a threat to the progress of development throughout the world, and Morocco is not anexception , " and noted that "as well as damage to structures vital infrastructure, can cause natural hazards in the destruction of property of individuals and their livelihoods. "
she added that Morocco is committed to put the issue of disaster in the heart of public policies and investments , " and we are pleased to contribute to this initiative. "
she explained that the grant will fund the creation of the " National Fund for disaster , "which will beallocated for the promotion of investments in the projects, whether at the national or local level, which will help Morocco to anticipate natural disasters and managing their consequences, stressing that the initiative "will be complemented by developing a national insurance program designed to protect thepopulation, especially the most vulnerable, and businesses against natural disasters."
