JEDDAH: A young boy was swept away by a flash flood due to heavy rain in Wadi Khurma, a valley in Makkah region, where he had gone with his family for sight-seeing on Saturday.
The Civil Defense, however, managed to save the other members of the family using helicopters, local media reported on Sunday. The child’s body was recovered by people who had gone to visit the place.
Meanwhile, a bus was stranded in the waters of Bahra stream at Ghareef center near Khurma. The bus was carrying 45 passengers, who were rescued at the right time. The Khurma–Turba road was soon closed as a preventive measure. A number of citizens and vehicles were trapped and stranded at separate locations because of flooding.
The Civil Defense said on its Twitter account that another incident was reported from the same valley, where two young men were trapped in the water and were rescued by helicopter.
The Civil Defense warned citizens and residents to take precautions during such weather conditions.
