Women don’t need work permits for jobs at ‘ladies only’ sections

RIYADH: Women employed with business establishments in the private sector that exclusively deal with female items or services need not acquire work permits, the Labor Ministry clarified recently.
In its official Twitter account, the ministry warned of strict action against business establishments found violating feminization rules, the most important of which is employing Saudi females only, local media reported.
A safe, productive and stable environment that enables women to discharge their duties privately and professionally should be ensured, said the ministry.
It warned of strict action against those found violating rules during inspection campaigns.
A top ministry official was quoted as saying that sections allocated for the sale of women’s items at departmental stores must follow the rules and regulations. “Departmental stores should choose between employing Saudi women for the whole store or refrain from selling such items.”
Business establishments are banned from employing men and women in the same store, he said, adding that only Saudi women can be employed in stores selling items exclusively for females.
