111 participate in Qur’an memorization contest

RIYADH: The 18th edition of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Local Competition for Holy Qur’an Memorization and Interpretation, which carries cash awards of SR600,000 in various categories, was inaugurated here on Saturday. 

Speaking after opening the event, Islamic Affairs Minister Saleh Al-Asheikh expressed his gratitude to the king. “We are very thankful to King Salman for patronizing the competition. The patronage is a continuation of the blessed care extended to memorization and learning of the holy book of Allah in the country since the time of the Kingdom’s founder King Abdulaziz.”
The competition aims at encouraging children to memorize the Holy Qur’an and understand its meaning so that they adapt the divine teachings as a way of life.
A total 111 young competitors (58 boys and 53 girls) will participate in five different categories: Memorization of the Holy Qur’an fully with knowledge of recitation and interpretation, memorization with knowledge of recitation, memorization of 20 chapters with recitation, memorization of 10 chapters with recitation and memorization of five chapters with recitation.
The ceremony to honor the winners is scheduled for Tuesday for girls and Wednesday for boys.
