Separated, healthy and thankful...

RIYADH: Pakistani conjoined twins Fatima and Mishal were separated in a seven-hour operation performed by a multidisciplinary team headed by former Health Minister Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah at the King Abdulaziz Medical City on Saturday.
The twins, brought to the Kingdom upon instructions of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, were conjoined at the lower chest and abdomen in addition to sharing the thoracic wall and liver.
The twin’s mother, father Nisar Ghani, their three children and a pediatrician from Swat, Dr. Amjad Choudhury, were also brought to Riyadh.
The surgery started at 7:30 in the morning and ended at 2:30 p.m. when separated Fatima and Mishal were brought to the ICU of the pediatric ward and were placed in two beds.
Pakistan Ambassador Manzoor Ul Haq, who was at the hospital, told Arab News that this separation is a gift of the king to humanity and the Pakistani nation. 
Ghani said he and his wife were thankful to the king for his magnanimity.
“It was a year-old misery ever since the children were born with congenital deformities,” Ghani said. With tears of joy, he said their ordeal came to an end due to the generosity of the king.
The medical team, comprising 20 doctors and specialists from different specialties, performed the surgery in six phases.
The separation of conjoined twins is carried out on directives of the king, with the total expenses of the surgery and travel borne by the government.
