Eight recruitment firms lose licenses in a year

RIYADH: The Ministry of Labor has withdrawn the permits of eight recruitment companies and issued warnings to 305 others for violation of rules in the last one year, an official has said.
The ministry has been consistently conducting inspection campaigns to ensure that companies abide by the regulations pertaining to recruitment.
“This is in compliance with the directive for the Labor Ministry to ensure that rules and regulations on recruitment are complied with, and make the agencies realize that their operations are officially monitored,” he said.
Meanwhile, a number of local recruitment offices has confirmed that they have stopped bringing in maids from Bangladesh.
“The only thing that they do now is to bring in the prospective maid’s identification papers and passport photo for the employer,” a recruitment agency representative said.
Khalid Al-Zahrani, an investor in the recruitment sector, said that one reason is the that the cost of recruitment for housemaid is SR7,000. “However, the actual cost incurred in recruiting a housemaid is between SR12,000 and SR15,000,” he said.
He said that there was a prior agreement between the recruitment offices and customers for the amount of SR7,000 but that this is not being followed.
Late last year, it was reported that 36,000 housemaids were ready in Dhaka to be sent to the Kingdom.
It was reported that Bangladesh was sending around 4,000 maids per month to the Kingdom. It was also reported that a total of 20,000 had been deployed in the Kingdom. There are some 1.2 million Bangladeshi workers in the Kingdom.
