RIYADH: Thirty million narcotic pills and 13 tons of hashish were seized during the last four months, the Interior Ministry has announced.
“This was made possible through an intensive campaign under the guidance of Crown Prince and Minister of Interior Mohammed bin Naif,” said Abdul Ilah Al-Sharif, assistant director general of General Directorate of Narcotics Control.
He said that authorities stepped up the campaign against prohibited drugs in view of their dangers to citizens, especially the youth.
Al-Sharif added that during the last four months 10,000 narcotic pills on average were seized per hour.
Statistics show that in addition to narcotic pills such as Captagon, the authorities seized 13 tons of hashish during the last four months.
Last year, authorities seized a total of 66 million Captagon tablets, 59 tons of hashish and 79 kg of heroin.
He pointed out that the enemies are using all means to penetrate the minds of young people and destroy them through drugs. Their target is our security and political stability, he said. Al-Sharif added that different methods have been employed by drug traffickers, who have become creative, to smuggle drugs into the Kingdom.
They have even hidden drugs in copies of the Holy Qur’an placed in mosques, he revealed. “Drugs have been hidden as bread and pastry filling, in fruits and nuts and women have been roped in for the dirty job.
