Hasina accuses U.S., Canada and Pakistan of sheltering Mujib killers
"I do not know why America and Canada, being civilized countries, sheltered the killers."
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has alleged non-cooperation from
the United States, Canada and Pakistan to bring back convicted killers
of the country’s founding father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
“I do not know why America and Canada, being civilized countries,
sheltered the killers,” Ms. Hasina said during Parliament’s question
time on Wednesday. “Our Foreign Ministry and Home Ministry are trying.
Whatever the reason is, we are not getting support from those
countries.”
Referring to two prime assassins, Col. Abdur Rashid and Major Shariful
Haque Dalim, Ms. Hasina said, “Rashid was in Libya and now in Pakistan.
Dalim is also in Pakistan. … but the country has not acknowledged it. Of
the killers, two lived in America, one in Canada, and we could not find
the two”.
Ms. Hasina, who survived 1975 plot to overthrow the first Bangladesh
government by a group of disgruntled army officers, said, “It’s very
unfortunate that the U.S. and Canada have provided shelter for the
self-proclaimed killers.”
She noted that Interpol had issued red corner notice for the killers and
the country’s home and foreign ministries are trying for their
repatriation. Ms. Hasina, the eldest daughter of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
who, along with her sister Sheikh Rehana survived the 1975 bloody
assassination plot, expressed her firm resolve to bring the killers back
home.
