An attempt of illegal migration by 174 persons from 10 different nationalities has been foiled by Egyptian security forces Saturday in the northern city of Marsa Matrouh near the Mediterranean Sea, announced the Ministry of Interior office. The boat began to take on water, and the crew docked the vessel in Marsa Matrouh, around 500 km far from Cairo. The boat crew fled before police arrived.

On Sept. 6, Egyptian navy forces have foiled an alleged illegal migration attempt by 228 migrants from various nationalities near Alexandria, according to military spokesperson Mohamed Samir.

Egypt has intervened in a number of migration attempts by hundreds of asylum seekers from the Middle East and North Africa, particularly from Egypt Syria, Iraq and Libya, via the Mediterranean Sea to Italy or Greece as  gates for other European countries. To solve the migration crisis, Egyptian business tycoon Naguib Sawiris recently offered to buy a Greek or Italian island for unregistered migrants
