Boosting tourism

I read with interest the article “Janadriyah — bridging the gap” (Feb. 15) by Abdulrahman Al-Rashed. It is very important to organize such cultural events. Janadriyah festival has undoubtedly gained immense popularity in the Kingdom. I fully support the writer’s proposal of transforming Janadriyah into an institution. Tourism authorities in the Kingdom should organize such festivals on a large scale to attract foreign tourists as well. Saudi Arabia has huge tourism potential. The Jeddah festival, for instance, could be transformed into a global event on the lines of the shopping festival held in Dubai annually. In addition to that Saudi Arabia is home to several historical sites that could be developed to attract students of history from around the world.
