Iranian hypocrisy

I read with interest the article “The revolution that wasn’t” (Feb. 15) by Amir Taheri. The writer’s analysis of the situation in Iran is accurate. I have many Iranian friends who are very different from the image that the Iranian media or for that matter even the western media present to the world. Iranians are undoubtedly a very different people who have been held hostage against their will. A handful of Khomeinist elements are calling the shots in Iran. It is indeed a sad situation. The writer has raised an important point, which needs to be highlighted properly i.e. not all people in Iran are Khomeinists.
People in Iran are living under fear. It is no secret that minority communities in Iran don’t enjoy any rights. The Sunni population, for example, is completely marginalized. So-called human rights organization should visit Iran’s Sunni-majority provinces and witness their plight firsthand.
Despite a poor human rights record, Iran wrongfully accuses its neighbors of mistreating minorities.
