unified Muslims under King Salman’s leadership

JEDDAH: Military commanders and security experts have said that the recent North Thunder exercise was the biggest ever in the Middle East. This carries a number of military, political and security implications.
The presence of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman at the final maneuvers in the presence of top Arab and Islamic leaders indicated their interest in unifying the views about the sovereignty, security and stability of their countries and deterring anything which could harm them or interfere in their affairs.
Speaking to the Saudi Press Agency, the leaders said that the organized military presence in the north of the Kingdom made it clear that Saudi Arabia, under the wise leadership of King Salman and the support of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif and Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, enjoys the best management in light of the changes and developments in the region and the world. The Kingdom’s leaders stand firmly against those who try to interfere in its affairs.
Retired military officer Abdul Aziz bin Mohammed Henaidi said that the exercise was the largest cooperative military operation in terms of the forces and arsenals used by the navy, air force and infantry.
He said that the presence of an alliance of this size was distinctive in the world. It has joint objectives to support the improvement of the capabilities of the participating countries and a rare historical development in which a military bloc was presented in record time and in a single place.
He said that North Thunder was different also because of participation of a number of military commanders with their experience in managing war operations.
He said that North Thunder was a clear message about the Kingdom’s power in conjunction with that of other Arab and Islamic states to deter those who might aggress against it. The exercise showed the strong cooperation between the participating countries and strengthened the idea of creating a wide Islamic alliance as was announced by Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Maj. Gen. Saeed bin Mohammed Al-Ghorabi said that North Thunder was the first step toward Islamic and Arab unity against the challenges facing the nations of the region and also to promote peace and stability.
He said that the drill showed the Kingdom’s regional and global role under the leadership of King Salman in uniting regional and international visions for the elimination of terrorism whose crimes exceed all humanitarian limits.
Maj. Gen. Jamal Mazloum, military analyst and professor at Naif Arab University for Security Sciences, described North Thunder as one of the largest military gatherings in the Middle East, which included 20 Arab and Muslim countries, including seven from Asia and an equal number from Africa.
He said that the huge military mobilization was the result of the efforts of the Kingdom under King Salman to support Arab and Islamic unity.
He said that North Thunder was also different due to the number of military forces using the most modern military weapons. He lauded the Kingdom’s military and technical capabilities in hosting a military exercise of this size. The exercise required great cooperation between the participating forces despite their different training.
Maj. Gen. Saeed bin Saad Al-Haznawi said North Thunder reflected the extent of the political and military capability of the Kingdom’s leadership and its huge efforts to bring unity to Arabs and Muslims. It had many important dimensions which will benefit the participants and create military leadership which can conduct operations despite the differences in many countries.
He said that North Thunder was completed with great success. It proved that the Saudi armed forces were capable of defending their country and cooperating with various other forces, despite different training and military equipment.
Fahad Al-Shulaimi, a political analyst, said that it was a rare thing for the leaders of the country to be present during a military exercise. He said that the leadership of King Salman could bring leaders of Arab and Islamic countries together according to the political and strategic point of view to stand against countries who support terrorism regionally and internationally.
He said that the presence of Arab and Islamic leaders illustrated that they understand the priorities of the community’s problems with terrorism at the top of the list. He said that the military alliance was a barrier to any threat to the region’s security.
The Arab and Islamic countries have come together to support the efforts of the Kingdom in the war against terrorism which is not related to any religion or sect.
Talal bin Mahmood Dhahi, professor of political science at King Saud University, said that North Thunder was an indication that the participating countries were well aware of the threats they face. He said that the cooperation was practical and clear against those who would interfere in their affairs.
He called for a united Arab force against any threat to Arab and Islamic countries under any condition. He said that this was not possible without unifying the leaderships of these countries as was done by King Salman in the military gathering.
Sarhan Al-Otaibi, professor of political science in King Saud University, said that North Thunder had made it clear that if Arab and Islamic countries come together with one objective they can eliminate any threat.
He said that North Thunder had strengthened the standing of Arab and Islamic countries and sent a clear massage against terrorism and its various organizations and countries which sponsor it.
