DAMMAM: Saudi Arabia and other Arab and Islamic countries taking part in the North Thunder military exercise at Hafr Al-Batin have achieved more than the desired results, observers have said.
“The exercise has not only brought together peace-loving and like-minded countries, but also proved that the Kingdom is ready to face any threat by adversaries,” the analysts have been quoted as saying by local media.
“This alliance guarantees regional stability. Saudi Arabia and other participating countries have achieved great success in a short time, in comparison with such maneuvers by European countries and the US, as planning itself takes much longer,” the observers said.
The military drill, in which 20 Arab and Muslim countries and the GCC-formed Peninsula Shield are participating, is in full swing, with soldiers displaying their preparedness and top aircraft and tanks in action.
The 20 participating countries are Saudi Arabia, UAE, Jordan, Bahrain, Senegal, Sudan, Kuwait, Maldives, Morocco, Pakistan, Chad, Turkey, Tunisia, Comoros, Djibouti, Oman, Qatar, Malaysia, Egypt and Mauritania.
According to sources, around 150,000 soldiers, 2,540 warplanes, 20,000 tanks and 460 helicopters are in action in the largest military exercise in the history of the region.
Observers said it is a tactical exercise and might turn into a combat maneuver if the need arises to intervene anywhere in the Islamic and Arab worlds, such as Syria and Iraq.
Observers said that the regional axis, represented by Saudi Arabia and other countries, can’t be ignored.
