KSA no warmonger; Houthi coup led to alliance action

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia is not a warmonger and does not interfere in the internal affairs of other states, Prince Turki bin Mohammed bin Saud Al-Kabeer, undersecretary for international relations at the Foreign Ministry, was quoted as saying by local media on Saturday.
“The Kingdom was forced to intervene in Yemen in the interest of its national security,” he said. “What happened in Yemen was the result of a Houthi coup, supported by that country’s deposed president, Iran and Hezbollah, against the legitimate government.”
He explained: “The legitimate leadership of Yemen was the representative of the Yemeni people approved by the international community. The Houthi coup was a threat to our security and stability, as well as a flagrant violation of international law, which prompted the international community to condemn the coup.”
He said: “It led to the formation of an Arab coalition in support of the legitimacy of the state. We advocate a peaceful solution without outside interference and favor a solution between the Yemenis themselves,” said Prince Turki.
“It was necessary to take precautionary measures to preserve the security of the Kingdom and of the Yemeni neighbors.”
Prince Turki said that the Kingdom would never think of waging a war or creating a crisis. “The Kingdom is ready to participate in a war against terrorism anywhere if it had legitimate international support,” he added.
