GACA won’t fire workers after privatization

JEDDAH: The General Authority for Civil Aviation (GACA) has reassured airport employees that no one will be fired during the privatization process, which will take place over the next five years.
Abdullah Al-Khorayef, GACA’s director of public relations and media, said that the companies formed under the authority would have service providers that would hire more people, according to a report in a local publication on Thursday.
He said there would also be training provided to improve the skills of staff members, with bonuses for those who perform well.
Privatization is important because it will improve services for passengers, as demonstrated in other countries, he said.
The aim is also to ensure that the country’s airports make money and can rely on their own investments and revenue.
He said the VIP lounges would be provided for a fee with top class services, including quick access to aircraft, communications, and in future special luggage and customs provisions and conference rooms for business meetings.
