RIYADH: Riyadh and Phnom Penh have signed a labor deal to recruit domestics and general workers from Cambodia.
Labor Minister Mufrej Al-Haqabani and his Cambodian counterpart Ait Samana signed the agreement.
Al-Haqabani said the Kingdom is keen on opening new markets for its employment needs.
He pointed out that the move would cater to the growing demand for domestics in the Kingdom and that the manpower supply scheme from Cambodia will be further streamlined.
Samana said the agreement would further strengthen the labor cooperation between the two countries and help both countries chalk out project agreements to recruit more people from Cambodia.
Under the terms of agreement, Cambodia should supply domestics who are qualified and competent to handle household chores in their respective workplaces.
Such employees should be well trained in their fields and should be familiarized with the social and cultural environment of the host country.
The agreement details minimum wage of the housemaids, working conditions, cost of recruitment, period of contract and other clauses that would protect the interests of the both the employer and the employee.
Following the ban on Indonesian housemaids, the Kingdom has been diverting its sources of labor exporting countries to places such as Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Laos and some African countries.
