JEDDAH: Security authorities in Jeddah called a citizen and his wife for interrogating with them on the charges of beating their Eritrean housemaid.
Makkah Police media spokesman, Col. Dr. Atti bin Attiah Al-Quraishi, said: “The Safety Center of Jeddah received a complaint from the African housemaid about her sponsor’s wife assaulting her.”
The sponsor and his wife were subsequently called to enquire about the complaint before the matter is forwarded to competent authority, Al-Quraishi said. Sources have informed that the housemaid suffered from persecution and beating during the period of work; a medical report recommended that the healing period should take of 14 days.
She was also expelled from the house and was prevented from taking her belongings and financial rights, the sources said.
This forced the housemaid to resort to her country’s consulate that approached the security authorities.
