This refers to the report “Iran offers Assad air defense help” (Feb. 15). As a matter of fact, the Iranian and Russian help to the Assad regime is deplorable. It also indicates that the two countries believe in Syria’s rogue regime, which is responsible for the massacre of more than 300,000 people.
It is surprising that the world has remained a silent spectator to the barbaric acts of Bashar Assad. Also, under the pretext of finishing Daesh, Russia and Iran are attacking the moderate opposition opposed to the Assad regime.
Iran’s sectarian attitude is detrimental to global peace in general and the Middle East in particular, with Turkey being hit hard in terms of the huge refugee influx.
The move by Saudi Arabia and Turkey to send ground forces to fight against Daesh is commendable. The US should not support Kurds for its vested interest. The superpower should understand Turkey’s circumstances and support it. It is high time the world rose not only against Daesh but Assad as well.
