Locals livid as viral video shows expat man shoving Saudi woman

JEDDAH: A surveillance video showing an expatriate man shoving a Saudi woman inside a supermarket has stirred a hornet’s nest.
Shared on social media, the video has gone viral and viewers are demanding harsh punishment against the offender.
As seen in the video, the woman was walking by an uncrowded aisle when the man, apparently unprovoked, blocked her path and pushed her down the floor.
The next frame showed security men accosting the man and subduing him.
A number of social network users said in comments that the incident took place in Riyadh, but Riyadh Police Department spokesman Fawaz Al-Mayman, said they have yet to see any report about such incident.
Several twitter activists have called on security authorities to give the culprit the punishment he deserves to teach him and others like him a lesson.
Activists have also launched a hashtag on twitter, expatriate_hits_Saudiwoman, showing their displeasure against foreign men taking liberties at local women.
"It is an attempt to abuse our country,” said one Saudi woman on Twitter, adding that while there have been many cases of such abusive acts by expatriate men against women, not all are caught on camera.
“This is really a horrible behavior against a woman. The expatriate seems to have lost his mind … I cannot believe that there are some women who face this kind of behavior in the Kingdom," another citizen said tweeted.
