Imams’ role in promoting unity to be highlighted at forum

RIYADH: The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance will be hosting a forum, “Belonging and citizenship, and the role of preachers and imams on how to uphold it,” as part of the ministry’s efforts to promote allegiance among citizens.
In a statement, Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, head of Mosques Affairs in Riyadh, said that 300 imams and preachers will be attending the event, in addition to heads of cooperative offices and Qur’an memorization associations. Some women preachers will also take part in the event.
He said the participation of preachers is essential as they play a major role in dealing directly with the youth of this beloved country. They are key the players in planting the seeds of loyalty in their hearts, he said.
The event will feature nine workshops, including two for women, and will be represented by the Mosques Affairs in Riyadh, under the aegis of Riyadh Gov. Prince Faisal bin Bandar, in the presence of the Minister of Islamic Affairs Sheikh Saleh bin Abdul Aziz Al Sheikh.
Grand Mufti Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh and various other senior scholars of the country will be among those present.
Al-Nasser said the love for one’s homeland is compatible with our religion, and the Ministry of Islamic Affairs is keen to promote this sense of belonging and the consolidation of good citizenship that shows tolerance in Islam.
“The greatest loyalty is the country’s allegiance and this is the very objective of the program” he added.
