Citizens urge development of endowment land in Qatif

DAMMAM: Citizens in Qatif have urged the government to develop several pieces endowment land in Qatif to create jobs and prevent criminals from using them as hideouts.
One of these pieces of land is the Waqf Al-Rames farms located on an area of approximately 8 million square meters. The Ministry of Agriculture has said that these properties cannot be sold because they have been donated for community use.
However, Tariq Al-Mulhim, director of agricultural affairs in the Eastern Province, said that the ministry supervises these farms and provides services and licenses to farming projects.
Mohammed Al-Girani, assistant judge in the Department of Awqaf and Islamic Inheritance in Qatif, said there was a great deal of property in the region that have been developed into rest houses and other businesses.
Nabih Al-Brahim, a former employee of the municipal council, said that the Al-Rames lands were used for farming, including palm plantations, over 100 years ago. He called on citizens and government to launch more development projects.
Al-Ramis farms are east of Awamiya village in Qatif. In November 2014 an Arab expatriate was beaten and shot several times in the feet and robbed of his possessions by two unknown assailants in the area.
