Thousands of Britons stranded in Sharm el-Sheikh prepare to fly home

British holidaymakers waiting to be flown out of the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheik converged on the city’s airport on Friday to board flights to the UK.
Some 3,500 Britons, whose flights have been delayed amid mounting British government suspicions that a Russian jet that crashed on Saturday with 224 passengers on board, had been brought down by a bomb.
Passengers preparing to board the flights back to the UK, who have been stranded in the resort since the flights were delayed, have been told they will be allowed to travel only with a laptop-sized case and that their baggage will be sent on a separate flight and delivered seven days later after being screened.
The measures were imposed after an assessment by British security experts at the airport and after suspicions were apparently raised by intercepted phone calls by known militants in the Sinai which suggested that the plane had been brought down by a bomb smuggled on board.
