David Cameron: Britain must extend airstrikes to Syria to fight Isis

David Cameron said it was his “firm conviction” that Britain should extend its airstrikes against Islamic State targets from Iraq to Syria as he told parliament that the Paris attacks had shown the UK faces a “direct and growing” threat.
In a move that was given a guarded welcome by Tory critics of armed intervention, the prime minister announced plans to set out a “comprehensive strategy” on Syria in an attempt to secure a Commons majority to approve airstrikes in the country.
Reporting back after the G20 summit in Turkey, Cameron told MPs: “My firm conviction is that we need to act against Isil in Syria. There is a compelling case for doing so.”
Cameron is expected to outline his plan in writing towards the end of next week before a possible vote.
