2014 bombing: Bahrain sentences 2 men to death

Authorities in Bahrain say two men have been sentenced to death after being convicted of killing a police officer with a bomb in 2014.
Prosecutor Nayyaf Yusuf announced the sentence on Monday in connection with the attack in al-Dair, northeast of the capital, Manama.
King to decide
Defence lawyer Mohammed al-Tajir told The Associated Press that King Hamad Al Khalifa now must decide whether the death sentences should be carried out.
Al-Tajir said the two men, Hassan Mosa and Mohammed Ramadan, were among 12 charged in the case. Another defendant received a life sentence, while the rest received six-year prison sentences and fines.
The tiny Gulf island nation of Bahrain has experienced continuing unrest since 2011, when its Shiite majority demanded more rights from the Sunni monarchy. Bahrain is home to the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet.
